Through the simultaneous quantification of multiple molecular modalities, single-cell multi-omics (scMulti-omics) allows for a detailed understanding of the intricacies of complex cellular mechanisms and their heterogeneity. Existing methodologies fall short in effectively inferring the active biological networks operating within the diversity of cell types, and their responses to external stimuli. Using single-cell multi-omic data, we introduce DeepMAPS, a system for inferring biological networks. A heterogeneous graph is utilized to model scMulti-omics, enabling a robust learning of cell-gene relationships within both local and global contexts via a multi-head graph transformer. Benchmarking reveals that DeepMAPS excels at cell clustering and biological network construction, surpassing existing tools. It also displays a competitive edge in generating cell-type-specific biological networks, particularly from the integration of lung tumor leukocyte CITE-seq data with paired diffuse small lymphocytic lymphoma scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq data. To evaluate the influence of different organic and inorganic iron (Fe) levels in the diet on productive performance, egg quality, blood parameters, and tissue iron concentrations, an experiment was conducted using aged laying hens. Thirty-five 60-week-old Hy-Line Brown laying hens per dietary treatment were randomly assigned to seven replicates for this study. Ten cages, arranged consecutively, formed each replicate. The basal diet contained either organic iron (Fe-Gly) at 100 mg/kg, or inorganic iron (FeSO4) at 200 mg/kg, and vice-versa, as additions. Six weeks' worth of ad libitum diets were provided. Studies revealed that the inclusion of organic or inorganic iron in the feed increased (p < 0.05) the intensity of eggshell color and the amount of iron found in the feathers, relative to control diets lacking iron supplementation. Supplemental iron levels and the type of iron source demonstrated a statistically significant (p<0.005) interaction in determining egg weight, eggshell strength, and Haugh unit. A greater eggshell coloration and hematocrit were observed in hens fed diets with organic iron supplementation, exhibiting statistical significance (p<0.005) compared to those fed diets with inorganic iron supplements. Overall, the use of organic iron as a dietary supplement for aged laying hens improves the overall eggshell color intensity.
